The General Council’s international relations
Parliaments contribute to good relations between countries, which can develop within various frameworks. For example, delegations from the General Council participate in international parliamentary assemblies:
· The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe,
· The Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE,
· The meeting of the Presidents of Parliament of the Ibero-American Conference,
· The Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie,
· The Inter-Parliamentary Union which acts as the parliamentary wing of the United Nations,
· The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean,
· The Conference of Presidents of the Parliaments of Small European States, of an informal nature.
A typical parliamentary figure are the friendship groups created between two parliaments. They meet periodically to deal with topical issues between both states in an informal, relaxed atmosphere.
As the highest representative of the General Council and its greatest authority, the Síndic General liaises with his counterparts. This may be in the form of official visits that allow them to both address matters of common interest and to learn about the other country’s reality.
