General elections

Legislative or general elections are held by universal, free, direct and secret suffrage. 28 members of the General Council – or 42 if article 52 of the Constitution applies – are elected for a period of four years. Half of these are elected nationally and the other half by the seven parishes, equally, currently two each.

After the dissolution of parliament, new elections must be held within 30-40 days.
