I am delighted to welcome you to our country for the Conference of the International Commission for the History of Representative and Parliamentary Institutions (ICHRPI), taking place this year in Andorra. This ancient Pyrenean country always offers an enthusiastic welcome for this kind of event, because the exchange of opinions that will take place over these few days expands our knowledge and helps us to delve deeper into our history. Our parliamentary history is an excellent example of the evolution of political life in the western world. From the Consell de la Terra, or Council of the Land, of which we are celebrating the 600th anniversary this year, to our current Consell General, or General Council, a series of changes and transformations have turned that first, ground-breaking representative institution into an agile, contemporary parliamentary body. Our institutional set-up, a faithful reflection of the richness of political life in Andorra, encourages debates in the Casa de la Vall, our headquarters, to fulfil and even exceed our citizens’ expectations. What’s more, our councillors’ proximity to their parishes helps them to keep a close eye on the issues that matter to the population. If you will allow me a personal reflection, as the country’s first female General Syndic, I am delighted that women are bursting their way into political debate and profoundly enriching our society. To conclude, I hope you feel right at home in Andorra and enjoy some dynamic, passionate debates. Exchanging ideas is the best way for us to grow as active citizens in an increasingly complex world. I wish you a wonderful stay in our home. |

Em plau adreçar-vos unes paraules de benvinguda al nostre país en ocasió de la vostra assistència al Congrés de la Comissió Internacional per a l’Estudi de la Història de les Assemblees Parlamentàries i Representatives (CIHAPR), que s’organitza enguany al nostre territori. Andorra, aquest vell país dels Pirineus, acull sempre amb entusiasme totes aquelles manifestacions que s’hi celebren perquè aquest intercanvi d’opinions engrandeix el nostre coneixement i ens ajuda a aprofundir en la nostra història. El nostre recorregut parlamentari és un bon exemple de l’evolució de la vida política al món occidental. Des del Consell de la Terra, del qual celebrem enguany el seu 600 aniversari, a l’actual Consell General s’han succeït canvis i transformacions que han convertit aquella primera assemblea representativa en una seu parlamentària àgil i arrelada al seu temps. La nostra configuració institucional, fidel reflex de la riquesa de la vida política del país, permet que els debats a Casa de la Vall entronquin amb les expectatives dels ciutadans. A més, la proximitat de les conselleres i dels consellers a les seves parròquies ajuda a tenir una visió propera de les temàtiques que configuren els debats de la nostra població. Permeteu-me també una reflexió personal, com a primera Síndica general del país: l’arribada de les dones al debat polític s’ha fet amb força i enriqueix la nostra societat d’una manera profunda i ferma. Sigueu benvinguts a Andorra, debateu amb rigor i entusiasme. L’intercanvi d’idees és la millor manera de créixer com a ciutadans actius en un món cada cop més complex.
